Transparency and Trust – choose the independent agent everytime!

Customers should beware of estate agents who may try and use underhand tactics to profit from offering mortgage broking and conveyancing services. Mansbridge Balment Plymouth says recent newspaper revelations that increasing pressure on agents to sell these services, as well as the property, is leaving people thousands of pounds out of pocket. Darren Lawson, Managing Director of the agency, said to be certain of receiving a trusted and transparent service, customers should select an independent estate agent with a proven heritage and track record. He said these kind of practices are likely to continue while the industry remains unregulated and, until the Government addressed that, people should ideally use an agent fully licensed by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) – like Mansbridge Balment Plymouth….

Trust in our Allagents rating – with transparency guaranteed

Mansbridge Balment Plymouth has joined in the current industry debate about online customer service reviews with the message – you can trust in our top 40 in the country rating. The debate was sparked when a lifestyle blogger, who got no viewings for her flat with an ‘online agency’, posted a low rating on Trustpilot, a review site, which was subsequently removed. The blogger was advised that the review would only be reinstated if the service she had received was verified by the agent in question, which resulted in a flurry of social media activity about how review site ratings are managed. Chris Mervyn, Branch and Marketing Manager at Mansbridge Balment’s Plymouth City office, said it was vital people could trust in the veracity of online…

Give the property market some serious political clout!

Put the property market high on the political agenda – that’s the message from Mansbridge Balment Plymouth as the final countdown to the General Election begins. While senior management at the agency have broadly welcomed election pledges to tackle the current shortage of homes, they have also urged the new Government to make Housing a more political priority. Darren Lawson, Managing Director of Mansbridge Balment, believes this can only be properly achieved by elevating the role of Housing Minister to a cabinet post – and giving the sector the political clout it deserves. “The property market is such a fundamentally key part of our economy, yet this simply isn’t reflected in its political status” said Darren. “Successive Governments have relegated the Housing Minister to a junior…

Helping Plymouth stay buoyant as UK property transactions fall

Mansbridge Balment Plymouth continues to forge ahead in securing successful house sales, despite a national decline in the level of property transactions. Recent data from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) show that while transactions in England were up 0.5 per cent in March 2017 compared to February, over the 12-month period from March 2016, they are down more than 40 per cent. Property analysts have pointed out that the year on year fall was skewed by the spike in transactions in March last year, as buyers tried to complete purchases before the sharp rise in Stamp Duty came into force in April. But while uncertainty remains in the coming months in the face of ongoing Brexit negotiations and a General Election in June, the overall…

Bank of mum and dad is open for business

The ‘bank of mum and dad’ has now become the tenth biggest mortgage lender in the UK, as young buyers are increasingly relying on financial support from their parents to get onto the housing ladder. According to new research from insurer Legal and General in association with Cebr, this year alone, parents are expected to lend £6.5 billion, contributing to more than 298,000 mortgages and accounting for 26% of all property transactions. This is a 30 per cent increase on the £5 billion loaned in 2016. With house price increases far outstripping growth in average wages, first time buyers are struggling to save a big enough deposit to qualify for a mortgage loan and get a foot in the door without parental assistance. The country-wide average…

Toby the Miniature Dachshund is the latest addition to the family of the agency’s Managing Director Darren Lawson and was named by his sons Sam and Cameron. One key message Toby will be helping to promote is the agency’s Gold standard customer service, following their…

M.A.D. award winners are a ground force to be reckoned with!

Mansbridge Balment Plymouth staff members Natalia Rozario and Julie Comber helped smooth a house sale process in Plymouth – by tidying up the garden. Now the dynamic duo have been honoured for their selfless clean up act by winning the agency’s much coveted Making a Difference (M.A.D.) Award. Natalia and Julie – who both work at the Plymouth City Office – each scooped £75 worth of vouchers of their choice in the latest M.A.D. award, given to staff who go above and beyond during the course of their daily work duties. When the buyer of the property in Plymouth grew increasingly frustrated with broken planters and other mess, Natalia and Julie, both previous M.A.D Award winners, decided they would step in to make sure everything in the garden…

Mum’s the word for a second time for Mansbridge Balment’s Moving Manager Joanne Churchman. Joanne – who works at the Plymouth City Office – is taking maternity leave to have her second child. The agency has recruited a familiar face to take on the role in Jo’s absence in Ruth Dreher. Ruth is the wife of Plymouth City Office Director Ben Dreher and brings a strong academic background, as well as a good knowledge of the estate agency business to the job. Mansbridge Balment Plymouth is putting its full weight behind a powerful new initiative designed to deliver greater customer confidence in estate agents. The agency is supporting Propertymark, which has been launched by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), the organisation regarded as the benchmark for excellence in the industry. As the Westcountry Regional Executive for the NAEA, Chris Mervyn of Mansbridge Balment Plymouth City Branch, will be playing a key role in promoting the new initiative to other regional members. “In an industry that remains unregulated, Propertymark is a sign that tells our prospective customers we firmly believe in regulation and are serious about protecting them and their right to receive a service of the highest integrity and professionalism,” said Chris. “As one of the…
