The debate was sparked when a lifestyle blogger, who got no viewings for her flat with an ‘online agency’, posted a low rating on Trustpilot, a review site, which was subsequently removed. Helping Plymouth stay buoyant as UK property transactions fall

Mansbridge Balment Plymouth continues to forge ahead in securing successful house sales, despite a national decline in the level of property transactions. Recent data from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) show that while transactions in England were up 0.5 per cent in March 2017 compared to February, over the 12-month period from March 2016, they are down more than 40 per cent. Property analysts have pointed out that the year on year fall was skewed by the spike in transactions in March last year, as buyers tried to complete purchases before the sharp rise in Stamp Duty came into force in April. Bank of mum and dad is open for business

The ‘bank of mum and dad’ has now become the tenth biggest mortgage lender in the UK, as young buyers are increasingly relying on financial support from their parents to get onto the housing ladder. According to new research from insurer Legal and General in association with Cebr, this year alone, parents are expected to lend £6.5 billion, contributing to more than 298,000 mortgages and accounting for 26% of all property transactions. This is a 30 per cent increase on the £5 billion loaned in 2016.
