LOCAL HERO COMES TO THE AID OF YOUTH CLUB

News at Mansbridge Balment | 14/03/2023

CHAMINGS of TAVISTOCK have come to the rescue of our friends at Princetown Youth Club.

The club was in serious trouble towards the end of last year with a broken heating boiler and no funds for a repair or replacement.

Princetown Youth Club is a vital facility for this beautiful but somewhat isolated community.  Young people have very little by way of facilities in the village and so the Youth Club is a vital part of life for the young people of Princetown.  The club were in urgent need of solving the problem.

Chair of the club, Emma Byrom, contacted the Tavistock Times who published an article highlighting the issues for the club.  Emma also contacted Mansbridge Balment as she knew us and knew that we would always try and help where we could – if there was a good cause, we’d be there.

Managing Director, Nick Henderson, agreed that we would see what we could do.  This was just before Christmas and so it was decided that we would make the cause the focal point for our digital Christmas cards and ask our contacts to make donations towards the cause if they felt able.  One of our contacts was Gary Lynch at CHAMINGS.

Gary had read the Tavistock Times article and decided he was going to do something – the Christmas card prompted him into action and he contacted boiler manufacturers NAVIEN.  Navien Regional Business Manager, Shaun MacDonald, immediately offered to supply a brand new boiler free of charge.  Not only that but Gary insisted that Chamings would install the boiler entirely without cost.

On Monday 27th February, true to their words, Gary and Shaun oversaw the installation of the boiler and warmth has been restored to the building.

We are continuing to work alongside Emma and the club as the building is still in need of some TLC.  Nick is working with former Mansbridge Balment MD, David Balment, who has offered his help as a surveyor to advise the club as we continue to find ways of improving the building overall.  “Further funds will be needed as this building is showing signs of its battle against the elements but while there are people like Gary and Shaun around we hope the future for the club is bright.”  Nick Henderson, MD Mansbridge Balment.
